Brush Fire In Scottsdale

Wildfire season is here in Arizona. As of July 27th, there are 16 active fires in Arizona according to the U.S. Forest Service. It only takes one spark, a cigarette butt thrown out of a car window, or a dragging chain from a vehicle, for a flame to ignite among dry brush. High winds can add fuel to a brush fire and cause devastation by spreading rapidly and destroying everything in its path. Last month, a brush fire that occurred overnight in Avondale, threatened nearby homes forcing many families to flee their homes as a safety precaution. Luckily, this brush fire was put out by the fire department before it caused any structural damage.
SERVPRO Scottsdale provided some brush fire readiness tips below:
- Maintain a 30 foot safety area around your home.
- Take care of the outside area surrounding your home by trimming trees and shrubs and remove any dead vegetation and dry overgrowth.
- Keep you’re your lawn mowed and maintained.
- Be mindful of where you park your vehicle as a parked vehicle near dry brush can cause a spark.
- Have a plan in place with your family that includes escape routes and safe meeting locations in the event of a brush fire.
- Be alert and stay informed by monitoring the news, social media, and having emergency alerts on your phone so you can be aware of when it is time to evacuate your home.
