Monsoon season is just a few months away for residents in Scottsdale. At a time where majority of us will be melting from triple degree temperatures, the monsoon rains bring much needed moisture and cooler temps. Although monsoon storms are welcomed in the southwestern desert, it’s important to follow safety guidelines as monsoon storms bring heavy rains and floods. Here are 4 tips to keep you safe during a flood.
- Have a safety plan in place to keep your home and your loved ones as safe as possible. Be sure to include things such as how to safely escape your home in the event of a flood, where to keep your pets, how to create a barrier around your home to prevent water from entering and a list of things to keep in your emergency kit.
- Be sure to have batteries just in case you need them for things such as flashlights and radios. It’s also good to have battery power banks on hand to charge your phones.
- Move to higher ground as it’s easy to get swept away and knocked off your feet with fast moving floodwaters. If you live in a two story home, move to the second level of your home.
- Have a plan in place for storm cleanup if your home is dealing with water damage after a flood. SERVPRO of Scottsdale is ready to help you with the cleanup process. We will assess the situation, clean up the damage and dry out the moisture to prevent mold growth from occurring.
